The Blasters are coming to my town this weekend and I was wondering if anyone here could tell me if it was a show worth checking out. Thanks.

Dave Alvin, Blasters guitarist, played one song on The Las Vegas Story by the Gun Club, one of my all time favourite albums. He also played with X, another of my faves, on one album, co-wrote at least one tune with John Doe and I believe that they covered one of his songs.

As a 34 year old veteran of over 400 concerts and proud owner of an enormous CD collection, these are criteria that would make me go and see them.

Check the website for clues as to their style, but basically it sounds like rootsy rock with some brass. The started on the back of the LA Punk movement that spawned Social Distortion, X, Gun Club and all the others mentioned in Marc Spitz and Brendan Mullen's excellent book We Got The Neutron Bomb.

Absolutely. Awesome band, especially if it's the original lineup.

The Blasters are awesome! I love Dave Alvin, but I dont think hes playing with them right now. We saw the Blasters open for X last year when they filmed their live DVD. There was no Dave Alvin.
Although he just did a tour with the Knitters, so maybe hes got a traveling bug right now.
Either way, go you'll have a blast!

The Blasters are a must! Check out Dave Alvin's contribution to the latest Wanda Jackson album.
